Mike Benbow, Chair of Dyfed-Powys NARPO wrote to NARPO HQ on 23rd July regarding the possible early release of Bowers & Cole. The National Office is joined with the Police Federation and Superintendents Association in pursuing all avenues.

The letter reads as follows:

I write on behalf of DPP members and myself with dismay, horror and disgust regarding the news of the proposed early release of Bowers and Cole who were convicted of their involvement in the killing of PC Andrew Harper. We all feel that Andrew and his family never received proper justice in the original trial and sentencing of the three killers.

This proposal to release two of the killers under a dangerous early release scheme shows little respect to Andrew’s family and does little to inspire any faith that Harpers Law will ever be taken seriously by the Government and any judicial process.

I ask on behalf of all our members that you use your extensive lobbying powers to express our shock, horror and anger that the Government through the Ministry of Justice is planning the early release of these joint enterprise killers.

I am sure that members across the whole of the NARPO family share the same sentiments as my branch and that you will both do everything possible through extensive lobbying and the media to prevent any further injustice to Andrew’s family and his memory.
